Returning to Gesses is not always externally easy. It's HOT: 34C/93F in the house and it will take some time to readjust. A mouse drowned in our toilet. Our porch was covered in ashes from the annual field-burning and ash also found its way into our home through the screened louver windows. Two of the children's chickens were killed by dogs.
Yet we can respond joyfully. We can add sweetness. This won't come naturally - we need to choose it.
So since our children were particularly upset, I made some lemonade. We talked, cranked up the tunes, and we all took showers to cool off!
We got out the broom, let the kids have a water fight and started unpacking.
Our response as parents will impact how our children respond to life's challenges.
Today I choose lemonade. And tomorrow. It's not easy but it is good. And maybe our children will also learn to make lemonade.
