We were not surprised to hear what happened in Injebara. They decided to stay in Injebara until morning since it was already past 10 pm when they arrived. She wasn’t able to stay in a hotel and she was also not allowed to be admitted to the clinic in town. Discrimination is something the Gumuz have dealt with for a long time but still it was sad to hear.
So the family members decided that it would be best just to spend the night in the car (and not move her again) and that is what they did. Gumuz are incredibly strong and their pain threshold is remarkable. We praise God Yaguk made it through the night.
First thing the next morning, John took them to Bahir Dar and admitted her to the hospital. The doctor there confirmed that this was one strong lady. Her pulse and her grip were strong. The hospital admitted her and took x-rays. This hospital is only a 5 minute walk from the Colemans and so they are able to check in on the situation often. What a blessing! They know this family well and are glad to help.
