The beauty of worship Gumuz style...

Two months ago, our teammate Travis spent a week in a ethnomusicology workshop with 4 Gumuz believers.  Out of that workshop, 4 new songs were brought to the church body.  Until this time, all but one of the songs were translated from either English or Amharic and there was little resemblance to the traditional music of the Gumuz culture.

Whenever the drum was brought out for the Gumuz style worship songs, men began stamping their feet (to warm them up) and everyone got a smile on their face.   We hear the new songs being sung on the paths and thanks to technology these songs have also been stored on atleast a dozen cell phones!

We believe that the gospel will go forth with power through song to villages where there is no existing church.  Pray that the Lord would fill men and women (and even children) with songs of worship for what He has done.
