After my last post...I have to share the wonderful skype conversation I had this afternoon. My dear friend Stephanie (who was an STA with us in Sherkole), is presently living among the Darfur in South Sudan. One of my treasured Darfur friends, Khoser, along with another Darfur lady were with her. Actually Stephanie woke her up to tell her that she was calling me!
I enjoyed 1/2 hour of interacting in mixed Arabic and English and I was able to show Khoser the 2 children she hasn't met. They were able to see me but I only caught a few glimpses of their faces when they shone a flashlight on themselves. I assumed they were in a dark hut and wondered why they didn't just go outside. They informed me that it was almost 10pm at night. Right....
We prayed together and then ended the call. There were tears of joy and sorrow at the end. It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting on a grass mat sipping freshly roasted coffee and sharing the good news of salvation with Khoser and her neighbours. I spent MANY hours with her. What joy to know that she is growing in her faith and what sorrow realizing that I might never see her or talk to her again on this earth. Khoser said that she will now pray daily not only for her own people to accept Jesus as Lord but also for the Gumuz women....who have never heard the name of Jesus.
