The Gumuz church successfully presented their first Easter drama. Some highlights: A real donkey carried Jesus through the church. Real knives and spears were carried by the thugs who arrested Jesus. The three crosses were the three pillars in the centre of the church used to support the roof. Using a ladder and ropes, they actually hoisted Jesus up on the cross so that he was well above us all. They closed all the windows and doors to darken the church after Jesus died and then when he appeared 10 men swung the doors open bringing in bright light. Great effect!
Improvements for next year: facial expressions. Jesus was smiling through most of the crucifixion. Emotions. Putting more emotion into the actual drama to make it seem more real.
We believe though that it was able to teach the Easter story in a way that words alone cannot and we trust that those present have shared the story with many others.
We were invited to a young families’ home for supper and were served keya, mutton stew with sorghum injera and coffee with wild hibiscus seeds ground up in it giving it a nutty flavour. Very nice. Chimare and his wife named their first child Nadia after our 4th so the kids were quite enthralled with this baby.
