We brought Askale and her son to Bahir Dar for Demelash's graduation. Though Rolf and John Coleman had planned to attend the graduation on Saturday, there ended up being a rule of one visitor per graduate. So Demelash's wife, Askale attended. Instead, we took Demelash and his family out for lunch at a lakeside restaurant.
The food was interesting. Good grilled tilapia fish but the pizza and spaghetti were spicy so the children were disappointed. The pizza had berbere tomato sauce, ground beef, tuna, cheese and jalapeno peppers on top.
It is quite common in Ethiopia for berbere to be added to "ferenjie" food. In Addis, we have become spoiled by how well ferenjie food is prepared. Here in Bahir Dar though we are finding that all the food is prepared Ethiopian style.
Kalia took the following pictures of Lake Tana and the flowers. Enjoy.
Demelash, Askale and their 3 children. They have lived in Gesses for a number of years working as teachers and evangelists. They moved to Dibate last month for their children's education.
