Today is Canadian Thanksgiving and we truly have so much to be thankful for. We asked our children what they were thankful for. Kalia said she was thankful for God because He loves us and Joel said he was thankful that the Schwenks were back. All the children agreed.
Hoping that the Schwenks would arrive back to Gesses in time for supper (from their 2 weeks in Addis), I made a thanksgiving meal on Sunday. I roasted 2 chickens, made a big pot of mashed potatoes, gravy, corn (from a can), 2 pumpkin pies and some tarts (from a pumpkin given to us by a Gumuz friend) and a pan of bubbat (traditional Mennonite bread with raisins which can then be covered in gravy). The pumpkin was even covered in whipping cream (I had brought a couple of packages from Canada).
What a treat it was especially since the Schwenks pulled in at 6:15pm just as our children were dishing up supper. Andrea and Micah also joined us for supper (Travis is in Addis) and so our house was overflowing. Holidays can be times we really miss home but we are thankful that we can always invite others to share our lives with. We trust that you can too.
