Pictures of our Home in Gesses

After a week of cleaning our house and moving stuff in, I took pictures of as many angles as possible.  The main room was previously painted and we hope to paint the other rooms upon our return to Gesses.   Hopefully this will give you a better understanding of our home. 



The first picture shows Nadia coming out of our front door. The Schwenks made a lovely welcome sign with all our names.   The second picture is taken as we drive into Gesses.  It is the side front view of our house.

These two pictures are taken from the front of our house. The first one points to the left (when standing in our doorway) and shows how close the Schwenk house is. Needless to say, our children play together off and on all day. The second picture is the view from our front door and is where we park our vehicle.

 

Rainwater is collected during rainy season (now) and then stored for the rest of the year.  We use this water for everything except drinking.  The cement cistern was the original hope for storing water but it leaks and the water drains out after rainy season is over.  These tanks are on the right (when standing in our front door) and collect water for the Schwenks.  Our tanks are further up the yard so that they are gravity fed to us.    We live on a sloping yard (actually we are on a mountain and there are mountains all around us).

These two pictures are of the back of our house.  The first one shows our screened in back porch where we will wash laundry, hang laundry and where the kids will play.  Presently the screen is very damaged and Rolf will replace that when we return to Gesses.  The screen helps keep out much more than bugs and so it will be a useful place all year around.  The laundry needs to be hung here since it dries faster than out in the rain (during rainy season) and won't get eaten by cows and goats during the dry season.

 This is the view from our back porch.  It is hard to see but we are on the upper side of a mountain and there are villages behind those bushes.  There is also an outhouse which we will use especially during the dry season (when water is too scarce to use for flushing).  The sattelite dish was brought in by one of the first missionaries to this place is not actually of use.  I was thinking of maybe planting a raised bed inside it?
