Today, a Gumuz lady came with her baby. This is a baby that I have been quite sure has TB. Her grandparents both died of TB back in July. The family was urged to get tested but they didn’t go. This baby was cared for regularly by the grandparents and so it is no surprise that the baby is sick.
Unfortunately, Dibate doesn’t test for TB and so you must travel to Chagni, one hour away. For a Gumuz woman who has never walked more than 15 km this is like going across the world. It’s a town, not the country. It’s a different language.
Despite several chances to go to Chagni, she hasn’t gone. Now, the baby is failing. It would take a miracle for this baby to live.
Tomorrow is another chance. Several Gumuz are going to Chagni and this woman, her baby and two other family members (that have also been urged to get tested numerous times) who likely also have TB will hopefully go along. When people can’t pay for medical treatment, we do, but they still have to make the effort to go ... we can’t just hand them money.
So pray for this family ... pray that they would in fact go to Chagni tomorrow. Pray that they would get the paper they need for the medication. Pray that they would be faithful in taking the medication. It can take 1-2 years of TB medication to be healed ... that is why it will take a miracle. When the Gumuz feel somewhat better, they stop taking the treatment.
Most of all pray that whatever happens, this family will come to know the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior.
