Sorrow for Sudan

Today our hearts were heavy.  My mom forwarded different news she received from a missionary evacuated from South Sudan and we were filled with sorrow.  We were aware that several months ago about 6000 refugees returned to Sherkole (where we served for 8 years).  Kurmuk was taken over by North Sudan though it was home to thousands of Southerners.  When this happened most of the southerners fled.

In many ways this was expected.  The disputed areas are being claimed by the North.  We were sad though to see this happen by force and with loss of life.

Now Yabus where SIM had built a school and the unity bridge (and is the town we had originally planned to be based near) was taken over and the Uduks and Mabaans living there have fled as well.    The missionaries in Doro have also been evacuated since bombing has taken place across the border into South Sudan.

We are sure that many more Southerners will flood into Ethiopia again when all they want is to live in peace.  Please pray for South Sudan – that they will put their trust in the Lord.  Pray for the North Sudan leaders – that God would transform them as he did in the life of Paul or intervene in some way.  We believe that God is a God of miracles and South Sudan needs a miracle now.

These are God’s people and so we know that he mourns over the loss of life.  May we not be overwhelmed by all the news that we hear.  This life is temporary and our Creator sees the big picture and He is in control.  And so we put our hope in the Lord.
