There seems to always be some excitement at night. If it isn’t one of our children waking at night with a need, then there is a donkey stamping outside our window or worse a donkey that decides to bray. We don’t have insulation and our windows have only a thin screen barrier so sound is not blocked. The other noises heard regularly are the bats scratching on the office roof or something running above our ceiling under our metal roof. These would be rats. Yes we have heard two of them chasing each other around. Thankfully they have not yet entered our house but they do have access to our verandah so ... if anything edible is left on the verandah, they leave their mark.

Well a few nights ago, Rolf set a trap and at 1am, we woke with a start at the sound of a rat flipping over and over in the trap. The sound was accented due to it occurring on metal. Rolf went out to take a look and in the end had to kill the rat himself as the trap was not of the highest quality. What will tonight bring?
No kidding, as I was writing this letter, Joel woke up crying. Rolf took him to the bathroom and he threw up. It could prove to be an interesting night. We can’t say life is boring but I wonder what it would be like to sleep 8 hours straight? It’s been a few years.
